My old laptop (M520) currently shows 512mb of ram upgradeable to 1028 mb. It is currently recognizing onlly 480mb.
An online scan shows (2) 256mb sticks but when I open the little compartment on the back of the computer, I only see (1) 256 mb stick that I can remove. It looks like there might be a stick below but it does not have any way to raise it for removal that I can figure out.
I would like to upgrade somewhere near max (1gb stick) but am afraid that the 256mb I cannot find (or remove) will prevent recognition since max allow is 1028 and I dont want to just put in 512 mb and only end up 768.
Can anytell tell me how to get to the 2nd stick or whatever I have to upgrade to max? BTW it is 200 pin PC2700 memory. |

It is normal on a windows system to show a bit less amount of memory than installed, as some of the memory is used for internal OS purposes. From the specs of this laptop, I can see that you will be able to remove only a single 256MB and install a single 1GB module, to get the max of 1280MB, the other 256MB is non-removable fixed memory.
Here is the memory specs for this laptop.

Install the 1GB, to get the max. |
