Hi everyone,

About a year ago, I upgraded my Dell XPS 210 (aka Dimension 9200c) machine from a dual-core Intel Core2 Duo E6600 to a nice quad-core Q6600.

Now, I'd like to know if this system would be upgradeable to 8Gb (I
currently have 4* Samusung M378T2953CZ3-CE6 1Gb DIMMs).

Since the G965 chipset appears to support up to 8Gb, does anyone know if that would be doable in the XPS210?

I was thinking of getting 4 M378T5663QZ3-CE6 or M378T5663QZ3-CF7 DIMMs but I would like to know if someone had attempted that before.. Smile

For the record:
# dmidecode |grep Product.*Dell
Product Name: Dell DXC061
# grep 'model name' /proc/cpuinfo
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
# lspci |grep Memory
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82P965/G965 Memory Controller Hub (rev 02)

Thanks for taking the time to read this.. Smile

ElCoyote2,

I wish someone would've replied; I'm wondering the same.

I am so curious--how did you upgrade your XPS 210 to a quad? Could you please walk me through the steps? A Dell tech once told me that the CPU was soldered (not socketed) onto the motherboard. True?

Have you noticed a big difference with the upgrade?

Any advice would be appreciated--my Phillips and I are ready to go!

Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim,

1) I've had reports from another XPS210 user: Yes, the XPS 210 -can- be upgraded to 8Gb, it even shows the 2GB DIMMs in the BIOS.

2) The cpu is not soldered, it's socketed. Just replace your E6600 with a Q6600 with the same thermal specs and it should work (follow the cpu replacement procedures).

Please note that I did not try a -recent- core2 quad cpu (Q6650, etc..), my Q6600 was from the same 'generation' than my E6600.

Best regards and happy christmas,

Vincent
